Jul 12, 2022

November 16, 1933 — July 8, 2022

Virginia Irene Gilbert Adamson passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022, in Layton, Utah. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on November 16, 1933, the only child of Enzly Alphaeus and Florence Irene Stewart Gilbert.

Virginia grew up in Pocatello where she enjoyed “helping” in her parents’ corner grocery store.

She made life-long friends during her teen years, who graduated from Pocatello High School with her. While attending Idaho State University, she met her eternal companion, Harley Kirk Adamson. They were married on December 30, 1952, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had been married 63 years at the time of his passing.

A gifted teacher, Virginia shared her talent at schools in Terreton, ID; Aberdeen, SD; Morgan, UT; and Roy, UT; teaching everything from a 1st-4th grade combo in a one-room school house to Junior High Special Education. Crafting was her favorite hobby; she loved the time she spent as owner and manager of The Treasure Peddlar in Centerville, Utah. She put both these talents to good use as she raised her five children and kept her home beautifully decorated.

As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Virginia served in many capacities, including Primary, Relief Society Homemaking, Teacher Preparation teacher, Ogden Temple ordinance worker, and faithful visiting teacher. Her husband and she served a CES mission to San Francisco, CA. She was an active member of the Daughter’s of the Utah Pioneers and served on many organizational boards, including PTA and Homeowners’ Association.

Virginia is survived by her children: D’Lynn (Calvin) Poll, Leslie (Neil) Nebeker, Scott (Pati) Adamson, Larry (Cyd) Adamson, and Jan (Kevin) Chugg; her 26 grandchildren and 65 (and counting) great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
