David Reuben Brandley
1955 — 2022
David Reuben Brandley (Dave) passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022. He was born on June 21, 1955 to David Shelton Brandley and Nola Delores Atwood in Raymond, Alberta, Canada. He was the first of 12 children.
When he was just one year old his family moved to Michigan. A couple of years later they moved to Provo, Utah and eventually ended up in Ogden, Utah. There Dave attended Mound Fort and Gramercy Elementary.
He grew up in the Lorin Farr 42nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1973. While living in Ogden and attending Brigham Young University he met Valita Campbell and they were later married on August 17, 1974. They then moved to Magrath, Alberta, Canada so he could become a welder. He attended Lethbridge Community College where he graduated with his degree.
Dave and Valita were sealed in the Cardston, Alberta Temple a year later. They had 4 wonderful children: Scott, Todd, Eric, and Valisa. While living in Magrath, Dave both designed and built his own energy-efficient home, with the help of s
Eventually, they moved to Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada where he worked for the Bow River Irrigation District as a Draftsman and Computer Administrator for many years. After 16 years of marriage Dave and Valita divorced but remained friends.
Dave moved back to Ogden, Utah in 1996. There he started an internet company with his son Scott. In both 2016 & 2017, their company, Shopper Approved, made the Inc. 500 – one of the most prestigious business awards in America. Also, during those years, they helped to build two schools in Kenya – providing hundreds of impoverished children the opportunity to receive an education. He was a dreamer, artist, welder, draftsman, builder, entrepreneur, adventurer, philanthropist, and much more.
In 2008 he met Revena May Cuyong. On May 28, 2009 they were married, and later sealed in the Cebu, Philippines Temple. They were the first couple sealed there for time and all eternity.
When his family was younger, he loved to take them camping during the summer and plan adventurous biking trips. Later in life he enjoyed traveling with his kids, brothers, and May. Some of his favorite places to travel were Waterton National Park, Mexico, Florida, and Hawaii.
Dave also loved hanging out with his brothers. As the oldest son, he had a lot of responsibility growing up, but the bond with his brothers was incredibly strong, and for the past 25 years in a row, he was able to go on a “Brother’s Trip” with them every spring. It was something he loved to do, and always looked forward to. Also, in the last few years of his life, he and his brothers would play golf every week, and they invented a new golf term in Dave’s honor – the Dave-o.
Dave was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Gospel and loved telling people about it. He held many callings throughout his life, such as primary worker, Executive Secretary, the High Council, and was currently serving as the Elders Quorum President.
Over the past 10 years he became passionate about Book of Mormon history and archaeology and spent a lot of time traveling across the eastern United States, visiting ancient mounds, petroglyphs, museums, hilltop forts, and historic sites. He also collected several ancient artifacts.
He was very generous and compassionate to others and loved giving hugs.
He is survived by his wife, Revena May Cuyong Brandley, his children Scott (Darla) Brandley, Todd (Brie) Brandley, Eric (Carra) Brandley and Valisa (Kyle) Craig and stepdaughter Theah (Spencer) McKee.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelton, Kelcee, Kinlee, Clarissa, Nate, Grace, Liam, Connor, Corbin, Berklee, Lailee, Tillee, Ridge, and his step-grandchildren Kiaonna and Saphira.
