Mar 2, 2022

September 2, 1946 – February 23, 2022

David Lee Johnson, 75, passed away in the early morning on February 23, 2022, at his home in Clinton due to complications of Multiple System Atrophy with Parkinson like symptoms (MSA-P). He was born September 2, 1946 to wonderful parents, Arthur Lorenzo Johnson Sr. and Dorothy Elizabeth Coop Johnson in Ogden, Utah.

Dave graduated from Ogden High School in 1964 where he lettered in baseball and football. He also went on to Weber State College to work on his finance degree. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Quebec, Ontario, Canada from 1967-1969.

He met his sweetheart, Bonnie Jean Kapp, at a church activity. Their marriage was solemnized August 11, 1972 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with two children, Tyler and Kimberly. When their kids were younger they spent their summers in Island Park camping and fishing. Dave and Bonnie were blessed to travel to many places: California, Minnesota, Oregon, South Dakota, Louisiana, Hawaii (twice), Florida, Nevada, Missouri, Tennessee, and Holland where they traveled with 30 of their relatives to see where Bonnie’s ancestors lived.

Dave worked at the Roy Post Office for 43 ½ years as a mail carrier. He enjoyed working there and meeting new people. He loved his co-workers and always walked into work with his crazy laugh. He was the Union Representative for many years and was presented pins, certificates, and a letter of appreciation for his dedication with the Union.

He also had a yard business for 40 years. He enjoyed taking care of people and their yards. He involved his kids with yards at an early age and taught them how to be hard workers. They were able to learn so many skills from him.

Dave was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has always had a strong testimony of the gospel and served diligently in various callings such as Counselor in the Bishopric, Scout Leader, Young Adult Advisor, Primary Teacher, Elders Quorum Presidency, Home Teacher, and many more. He loved the gospel. He attended the Temple and would go once a week in the morning before work. He enjoyed working on genealogy and finding out about his ancestors.

Dave loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting. He had a great sense of humor and always taught by example. He was always willing and happy to help anyone in need. He never complained and always told Bonnie how much he loved her and appreciated her for taking care of him.

Dave is survived by his wife, Bonnie Johnson, and two children, Tyler (Chantel) Johnson of Harrisville, UT, and Kimberly (Chanse) Malay of Clinton, UT; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Margene) Johnson of North Ogden, UT, and Robert (Lorna) Johnson of South Weber, UT; sister, Dorothy Hare of North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Barbara “Bunny” Johnson of Ogden, UT.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Dorothy Johnson; brothers, Arthur (Beverly) Johnson and Jesse Johnson; sisters, Carolyn (George) Henderson and Rhoda Johnson; and brother-in-law, Don Hare.

We would like to thank Home Health Care, AFI Advance Care and Hospice, the doctor’s, Lee, NaKala, Richard, Brandy, and Curtis for their compassion to Dave and Bonnie. You are angels.
