July 12, 1928 — April 27, 2022

Donna Young, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother at age 93 passed away on April 27, 2022, at home with her family at her side. Donna was born to Pearl Anderson Hawkins and Minor Hawkins in Rigby, Idaho on July 12, 1928. Donna married the love of her life, Jimmy Dean Young, on June 1, 1947, in Idaho Falls. Jimmy and Donna met at the dancing pavilion, where she taught him how to dance. They never stopped dancing. They were sweethearts, and he was the love of her life for 70 years.

They were blessed with three wonderful children: Sandra Kay Shaw, Douglas Dean Young (Judy deceased), and Diana Chitwood (Alan). Donna had two sisters, Ruth and Wilma. When the family moved to Idaho Falls, they taught every boy in the neighborhood how to dance. Donna and her sisters sang in church, at funerals, and at weddings. They also sang in competition at a major “Bow’s Theater” contest. They wanted to make a professional career of their singing, but their father didn’t want them to leave home.

Donna worked at St. Benedict Hospital as a nurses’ aide. She also worked at Ogden Canning, Dixie Dress Shop, Young’s Market, and Freeport Center.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed golfing, camping, water skiing, boating, dancing, and traveling with friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards. She was active in the Elks and served as Ladies President. She donated much of her time to charity projects.

Donna is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy Dean, her parents, her sisters, and her beautiful daughter-in-law, Judy Young.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

The family would like to thank AMG Inspiration hospice, for the care they gave Donna. She had some wonderful nurses.
