Jack Anderson Buttars

April 16, 1933 – October 30, 2022
Jack A. Buttars was born in Logan, Utah to Thomas James and Mary Anderson Buttars. As a young man, he graduated from North Cache High School. He spent most of his free time working on his family farm in Clarkston and the surrounding countryside.
Jack was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. He served a mission in Western Canada where he spent eleven months as District President of Vancouver Island and eight months as 2nd Counselor to the Mission Presidency. During his lifetime he held many callings.
He graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He received his military training through the ROTC program at Utah State University where he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. Throughout his military career, he held every rank of a commissioned officer. He retired as a Brigadier General in the United States Army.
Jack married Ruth Andrews on August 10, 1956, in the Logan Temple. They were married for 47 wonderful years. Ruth passed away on August 2, 2003. Together, they raised four children. Later, Jack married Susanne Olsen on October 24, 2008.
In 1959, Jack received his Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Southern California and received his Medical Degree from Mid-Western University in Chicago, Illinois in 1965. He completed his internship at Phoenix General Hospital where he practiced for ten years.
Jack later worked at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho. He was Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine and Family Practice and spent twenty-one years in Boise. He was later recruited by the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital as Director of Administrative Medicine. He practiced for eight years prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, his parents, Thomas and Mary Buttars, sister Hazel, brothers Edward and Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne, children Susan Buttars, Sharon Banfield, Jack (Rebecca) Buttars, Julie (Brian) Kirn and six grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Friday November 4, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 E Dimple Dell Road in Sandy, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 1850 East 8600 South, Sandy, Utah. A short viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. the day of the services.
