Mary Louise Wilde Jacobsen
December 31, 1926 — November 13, 2022
What a life this woman lived! Faithful wife. Loving mother. Strong ranch woman. Accomplished hotel owner. Successful business leader. Brilliant artist. Good person.
Mary Louise Wilde Jacobsen- “Weez”- passed away on Sunday, November 13th, 2022, from causes incident to a fall. She almost made it to her 96th birthday.
She was born on December 31st, 1926 (the world celebrated her birthday with fireworks) to George and Mary Wilde in a two-room log home in Kamas, Utah. She was the eighth of twelve children. “Weez” or “Weezer” was her brothers’ and sisters’ mispronunciation of “Louise,” and the name stuck.
She was raised in the Great Depression, but she always felt “everyone was in the same boat, so we never felt poor. We had everything we needed.”
She graduated from South Summit High School in 1944, where she served as Student Body Secretary. She worked in Salt Lake City for the war effort. She packaged parts for airplanes, trucks, tanks, cannons, and jeeps.
She wrote letters of support to servicemen and married a young Navy Lieutenant, Verl Waite. Kathy Lynne was born in 1948. Ronald Gary followed in 1949. The marriage didn’t work out, and they divorced in 1954.
She married the love of her life, Fred Jacobsen, in 1958. Fred owned the Saratoga Hotel in Caldwell, Idaho. Weez greeted the guests, ran the front desk, and operated the hotel switchboard. Janet was born in 1960.
In 1963, they traded the hotel for a ranch in Salmon, Idaho. It was a busy life: They worked together to cut and bale the hay, milk the cows, feed the sheep, and collect the eggs.
They moved to Ogden in 1967 where she managed Ogden City Credit Union.
In retirement, they traveled to Europe. The Pacific. Asia. Louise worked with a group of women helping a village in Mexico. She helped make quilts, purchase a new roof for a family, and start a ceramic shop to fund a school and provide employment.
Fred was diagnosed with cancer in 1988 and passed away in 1989. Louse was the last of her generation. Every Memorial Day, she’d visit gravesites in Francis, Marion, Wanship, Coalville, and Ogden to remember and celebrate family.
She leaves behind her loving children, Kathy (and Kurt), Ron (and Sandy) and Janet (and Jeff); sixteen grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
She lived a life.
