1928 – 2022

Barbara Bickmore Sessions passed from this life on Nov. 13 from causes incident to old age. She was born on May 28, 1928 to Danford and Lettie Bickmore of Paradise, Utah. She attended college at BYU, where she met Sterling D. Sessions. They married on Dec. 17, 1948 and began their family while he earned advanced university degrees in the East. They lived in Provo, Palo Alto, Lima and Ogden while he taught at Brigham Young, Stanford, and Weber State universities. At the age of 60, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Weber State. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as a leader in Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society. She was a member of the Ladies Literary Club of Ogden, and served as a board member of the Ogden School Foundation and the BYU Alumni Association.

Rearing seven children was her paramount achievement. She delighted in following the activities of her children and grandchildren, and celebrated the birth of every new baby. She was intellectually curious, well-informed, and broad-minded. She was an avid reader and a clear thinker to the end, despite her visual impairment. Barbara was a loving companion to her husband, and after she lost her sight he patiently cared for her every need.

She is survived by her husband, Sterling, their seven children–Christine (Douglass) Petty Taber, Cynthia (Gary) Lippincott, Susan (Thomas dec.) Rugh, Elizabeth (David) Eastmond, David Sessions, Scott (Julie) Sessions, and Andrew (Rachelle) Sessions–25 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Legacy Village of Sugarhouse for their support and care for our parents. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 2, 6-8 PM and funeral services Sat., Dec. 3, 10 AM at Wasatch Mortuary. She will be laid to rest in the Paradise, Utah cemetery.
