ReNae Diane Weir Barker

Nov 30, 2022

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, ReNae Diane Weir Barker, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022, at her home in Roy, Utah. She was 84 years old. ReNae was born on October 6, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to John Thomas Weir and Thelma Mable Child Weir. She was the second of three children and cherished the relationship she had with her older sister, Shirley, and younger brother, Jack.

ReNae grew up in Roy and attended Roy Elementary School, South Ogden Junior High School, and Weber High School, where she graduated in 1956. She was an excellent student, always earning top grades and honors.

On September 7, 1956, shortly after graduating from high school, ReNae married her childhood crush and the love of her life, LaMar Barker. They had been interested in each other ever since they were kids, stealing glances at one another while waiting for the school bus at the bus stop. They began dating as teenagers and were engaged before LaMar enlisted in the army and was sent to Germany during the Korean war. When he returned, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They settled in Roy and had been married for 64 years at the time of LaMar’s passing. Their relationship was truly one of love, commitment, respect, and trust; and we are so happy for their joyful reunion after two long years of separation.

ReNae was very organized and efficient. She worked for the Weber School District as secretary of Riverdale Elementary School from 1972-1988 and as secretary to the Ogden Temple presidency from 1994-2002. ReNae made many good friends while employed at both of these places and always held those relationships close to her heart.

ReNae was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved the Lord, had a strong testimony of the gospel, studied the scriptures daily, and remained faithful to the end. She served in a variety of callings including Ogden Temple ordinance worker, Stake Relief Society presidency, and ward Young Women president on three different occasions. She and LaMar also served three missions for the church. They served in the California Oakland mission from 1991-1992, in the Family and Church History Mission in Salt Lake City from 2005-2007, and in the Utah Ogden Mission from 2014-2015.

ReNae was the ideal homemaker. She was a gifted seamstress, cook, and decorator. She had a knack for making the task of managing a household look easy. She created a warm environment in her home that made visitors feel welcome. She will be remembered for the countless homemade pies, cakes, cookies, rolls, cinnamon rolls, and Sunday dinners she so selflessly made and shared with family and friends. She embraced her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother and worked hard to ensure each grandchild felt like he or she was the favorite. She sent each family member a carefully chosen birthday card every year that included handwritten, personalized comments and expressions of love. She was a wonderful example to her family, and we are grateful for the many precious memories we have of her.

ReNae lived a full and productive life until five years ago, when she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. This dreaded disease robbed her of the strength, energy, and zest for life she had always known. It was very difficult for her to be tied to an oxygen tank and to lose much of her independence. She fought the disease, using every recommendation given to her by her doctors, and we are grateful to the University of Utah Pulmonary Clinic for the care she received.

ReNae was preceded in death by her loving husband, LaMar, her parents and grandparents, her sister, (Shirley Seifert Walling), and a great-grandson, (Gardner Bullard). She is survived by her children, Scott (Robyn) Barker, Steve (Julie) Barker, and Shelly (Troy) Bullard; 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, her brother, Jack (JoAnne) Weir, and a brother-in-law, Leon (Marcia) Walling.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah. Viewings will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 and on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
