Hartmut “Harry” “Hart” Otto Jeske

September 23, 1937 — October 20, 2022

NORTH OGDEN­-Our loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes on October 20, 2022. He was 85 years old.

Harry was born on September 23, 1937, in Driesen, Germany to Walter Otto Paul Jeske and Luise Marie Augusta Bahr. He immigrated to the United States in November 1953 to Ogden, Utah where he spent most of his life.

Harry married the love of his life, Dorrene Ericksen, on March 11, 1960 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Together, Harry and Dorrene raised their family, Lindsey, Craig, Loren, and John, in their Ogden home. Harry spent more than 65 years as a Journeyman sheet metal worker at Richards Sheet Metal, where he was loved and respected by all that knew him.

Harry lived a life of service to others and was always thinking about what he could do for them and not for himself. He was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of callings, including as Bishop, Branch Presidency member, High Council member, and as a District Missionary for the Spanish-speaking members. He volunteered for over 40 years in various positions in the Boys Scouts, earning his Silver Beaver Award. Harry was well known for his creative and innovative pinewood derby cars and built a track for the local area to use.

Harry enjoyed making model airplanes and cars. He used his creativity and craftsmanship to make woodburning stoves, chandeliers, staircases, and many other odd-and-end projects. He prototyped airbag car parts for AutoLiv. Harry also learned to play the harmonica, guitar, and dulcimer (which he hand-made) without a single lesson.

Harry cherished his time spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their visits were highlights in his day. He will miss his four-legged pal, Duke, who he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling every chance he got.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorrene; their four children, Lindsey (Kumiko) Jeske, Craig Jeske, Loren (Celeste) Jeske, and John (Nikki) Jeske); 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family and friends that he loved very deeply. Harry was preceded in death by his loving parents, Walter and Luise; his sister, Ilse Pagel; and his brothers, Siegfried, Rudolf, and Manfred. While his family is deeply saddened to see him leave, we are greatly comforted by the reunion taking place on the other side of the veil.

Harry loved his many friends and co-workers and cherished those friendships.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N Washington Blvd., North Ogden. Friends may visit family on Friday, October 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park, Ogden.
