Phyllis Rae Meacham

Sep 14, 2022

Phyllis Rae Meacham passed away in her home, surrounded by her husband and 3 daughters, on September 7, 2022 at the age of 81 after a vigilant fight with liver disease.

Born on August 21, 1941 to Raymon Harold and Margaret Marie Mathill in Lander Wyoming. Phyllis was the eldest of 5 children. She often reflected on her extraordinary childhood filled with running trap lines, trapping wild horses with her father, and riding Flag (her horse) across the prairie.

At the age of 13 she moved to Layton, Utah to live with her Grandmother Ruth Haynes, where she met and fell in love with the paperboy. Phyllis and Clarence Russel Meacham were married on July 19, 1958, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Phyllis graduated from Davis High School in 1959 and went on to work as a lab technician and phlebotomist. The Meacham couple raised 6 children – which she referred to as her “dirty half dozen”.

Phyllis spent her life Loving and serving others. This was consistently reflected in the deep love she had for family. Phyllis actively supported her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in each of their endeavors. Her love was expressed in many ways, but her cooking was a highlight among family and friends. Phyllis was often found in the kitchen making her famous potato salad, or enjoying one of her several hobbies including painting, ceramics, sewing, and embroidery. Phyllis also found a lot of joy in her love of flowers, chickens, and hats! Always ready for an adventure, or road trip with someone in tow, it is fair to say Phyllis was the life of the party.

You felt loved if you knew our mother and if our mother knew you, you were loved.

She was preceded in death by her father Raymon. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Russel, her sons, Mike Meacham, Mark (Jill) Meacham, Bert Meacham and her daughters, Shelly (Paul) Hill, Sharon Meacham, and Brooke (Ray) Hunter; 29 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren, her mother Marie Mathill, her siblings, Sharon Smith, Gloria Young, Rod (Babbette) Mathill and Butch (Pam) Mathill.

A special note of thanks to her cherished daughter-in-law, Cynthia Meacham, for all her love and care.
