Dean Arthur Barnes

Dean Arthur Barnes passed away on September 18, 2022. He was a man filled with love for God, his family and fellowman. Dean was born in Long Beach, CA May 16, 1931. He attended Polytechnic High School, Long Beach City College, and BYU. He married lifelong sweetheart, LaNore Leavitt in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1952. Dean served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. He taught high school wood and metal shop in Long Beach, worked for Douglas Aircraft and then for Steiner Corporation. His career took his family to Utah, Hawaii, Chicago, and finally back to Utah. While living in Uintah, he served as an LDS Stake President and Regional Representative.

He and LaNore served as leaders of the West Virginia Charleston LDS Mission, as Directors of the Oakland LDS Temple Visitors’ Center and as service missionaries at the Joseph Smith Memorial building. He was a Patriarch for the Church. Dean was an avid music lover, wood carver, and all-purpose handyman. He and LaNore spent the last 2 decades in Farmington, Utah surrounded by dear friends and family.

Dean was preceded in death by 2 ½ weeks by his sweetheart, LaNore. Also, parents, C. Douglas and Luella Barnes and sisters, Helen McEldowney and Nancy Brindley.

Surviving are a sister, Phyllis Booth, and children: Thayne (Craig) Orgill, Lynne (Mark) Hamp & Cameron (Elizabeth) Barnes, 12 grand and 28 great grandchildren.

Viewings will be Thur. Sep 22, 6 ­- 8 PM Russon Mortuary 1941 Main, Farmington, UT and Fri. Sep 23, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM Shepard Creek LDS Ward 1533 N 1075 W Farmington, UT. Funeral services will be held Fri. Sep 23, 11 AM at Shepard Creek LDS Ward. Burial at Farmington City Cemetery.
