Eliria “Lydia” M. Ruiz

Eliria “Lydia” Ruiz, 83, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, unexpectedly at her home in Ogden. Lydia was born October 30, 1939, in Monero, New Mexico to Jose David and Teodora “Teodorita” Montoya. She was the oldest of four girls who are affectionately known as “the four winds” by their families.

She retired after twenty plus years as a civilian employee for Hill AFB and Defense Depot of Ogden. After retirement, her greatest pleasure and enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to Bingo and playing Bunco with friends and the occasional trip to Wendover. Mom was an avid reader of her mystery and suspense novels and mulling over her crossword puzzles. Every Christmas we could look forward to her baked goods, especially those biscochitos and her homemade jellies and jams.

Mom was the matriarch and center of her family who she loved with all her heart. She always remembered birthday and holiday cards for all her many friends and family. She was loved by many and feared by some. Mom was a fierce and generous woman who would give you twenty dollars even if she only had ten.

Lydia is survived by her four children, Maria Rosario (Brian) Schroeder, David Ruiz, John (Dianne) Ruiz, and Megan Montoya; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and her 3 sisters, Erma (Albert) Quintana, Rosalbina “Rosie” (Bill) Farr, Leonila “Nonnie” (David) Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose David and Teodora and her daughter-in-law, Penny.

Mom, we love you and we will miss you every single day.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
