Carmen Ursenbach Rich

Apr 19, 2023

Carmen Ursenbach Rich was born June 17, 1927, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Octave Willis and Jessie Redd Ursenbach. She peacefully passed away on April 18, 2023. Carmen grew up in a loving family in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and served as a missionary in the Swiss-Austrian mission. Later, while attending BYU, she started dating Boyd C Rich who also had served in the same mission. They were married in the Cardston, Alberta Temple on June 9, 1955. Having wanderlust, they moved more than 20 times around the country while raising their family of 7 children! They served a mission to Dresden, Germany and then later in the Washington, DC Temple Visitor’s Center.

Carmen loved her Savior and always served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in many and varied callings. Family history was one of her most cherished activities where she sought out her ancestors through diligent research. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her in return. She had a deep passion for art, music, and sharing her musical talent through vocal lessons. She had a beautiful soprano voice that she shared often. Gardening brought her great joy, and she was known to prepare meals from her home-grown produce.

Carmen loved her children the most. She enjoyed having skits and pageants, musicals, and sharing her thoughts in family gatherings. She hated motorcycles, although every one of her children owned one or more!

She is survived by her children: David (Judy), Mark (Gayle), Michael (Jane), Diane, Steven (Annette), James (Joanie), Debra, 27 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren, siblings: Wayne (Bernice, deceased) Ursenbach, and Garry (Deanie) Ursenbach. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters: Verena (Ephraim, deceased) Hatch, and Mariyln (Louis, deceased) Krammer.

Our deepest and sincere appreciation from the family goes out to The Gardens Assisted Living Center staff and residents who all became her close friends. Also, Inspiration Hospice, who served her with compassion, patience, tenderness, kindness, and professionalism.

A viewing will be held Saturday, April 22 at 9:40 - 10:40 am at the church located at 976 33rd Street (33rd and Jackson Ave), Ogden, Utah with funeral services following at 11:00. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd., Ogden.
