George Kruitbosch

Apr 21, 2023

George Kruitbosch of West Weber, Utah, passed away at his home on April 13, 2023, after many years of battling several health issues, while at the same time setting an example for those around him of how to truly LIVE and LOVE. To say he loved his wife, Darcy, is an understatement. She was who he wanted to wake up to every morning and be with every minute of every day. When she was present, he liked to introduce himself as “Darcy’s husband” rather than George, and also his most recent favorite, “I’m the eye candy in this relationship”. George married Darcy on October 13, 2002, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Las Vegas, Nevada temple on June 6, 2008.

Shortly after graduating from Roy High School, he served a full-time mission in the New York Rochester mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1977-1978. He always said it was the perfect mission for him. He loved serving where the Church has so much history. He loved those he served and had many great stories, two of which were about times he was arrested…If you know him well, you will not be surprised by this. Despite this, he completed his mission and was proud to share, “I didn’t have to bring my garments home in a brown paper bag!” He had a strong testimony of the church, which he clung to throughout his life.

George loved expensive hobbies including photography, shooting, fishing, all kinds of shopping, fine dining, and model trains. He was also incredibly sentimental and has countless mementos from family and friends that he has collected and saved throughout his life. He could tell you a story about every single item.

George had an extensive career in law enforcement, starting as a part-time policeman in North Ogden and retiring after more than 20 years with the Ogden City Police Department. He always said, “If you want to be a real policeman, work for OPD because you will see everything”. He said his favorite time was as a street cop, but he worked in nearly every division, including the Gang Unit, SWAT team member, Negotiator, Bike Patrol, Community Policing, School Resource/DARE Officer, Horse Patrol, Motors, and Detectives. After retiring, he worked for a short time as a corrections officer for the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and then for more than a decade with the State of Utah as a parole officer before being promoted to Lieutenant in the Inmate Placement Program.

George was born on November 23, 1956, to John and Norma Kruitbosch as the third of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beautiful wife Darcy, his siblings Endri (Jill) Kruitbosch, Gerrit Kruitbosch, and Cindy (Larry) Read, and his children Natalie (A.J.) Valenzuela, Kimberlee Kruitbosch, Cameron Kruitbosch, Kylee (Matt) Miller, Devon Mitchell, and Shantel (Alejandro) Ortiz. As well as his grandchildren, Kysonn Kruitbosch, Anthony Valenzuela, Julianna Valenzuela, Rockwell Miller, Kate Miller, Harper Miller, Victor Valenzuela, Jade Miller, and baby girl, Nayla Ortiz, on the way. George (Papa) looked forward to all of the visits, hugs, and antics from his children and grandchildren. They all thought they were his favorite person in the world, and they were. He knew how to make everyone feel special and important to him. He loved deeply.
