Erma Franklin
1934 – 2023
Erma Coleman Franklin was born February 10, 1934, in Logan, Cache, Utah. She was raised in Smithfield, Utah, as an only child, by her parents Arley Lamb and Orval Coleman.
She attended Smithfield Elementary, Smithfield Junior High and graduated from North Cache High School in 1952.
On September 23, 1955, she was married in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to Donald Roy Franklin.
They purchased a new home in Ogden, Utah where they raised five children and Erma lived until her death.
During her working years, Erma was employed at the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital and the Internal Revenue Service. She and Donald served three senior couple missions at Camp Shawnee (Stake Camp), Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii and the Utah Logan Mission. Erma served faithfully in many positions in her church. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts and had many other talents.
Family history and journaling was a lifelong passion. She was very organized and prepared long in advance for birthdays and gifts. She never missed a family occasion or opportunity to support her family. Her family was her greatest joy in life.
She is survived by her husband Donald; children Bonnie (Bruce) Barker, Gail (Lonn) Salmond, Ned (Deanna) Franklin, Diane (Steve) Worthen, Gary (Nicole) Franklin; 18 grandchildren and their spouses; and 26 great grandchildren with 3 on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Erma’s services will be Saturday, August 5, 2023, 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Interment will be at Smithfield City Cemetery, 300 E. Center Street, Smithfield, Utah at 2:00 p.m.
