Gloria Lewis

Aug 22, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Carolynn Lewis, affectionately known as “Lewie” to her close companions, who left us on August 16, 2023. Gloria was born on October 19, 1939 in Ogden, UT, she was a resilient and spirited soul whose generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Gloria spent the majority of her life in Perry, Utah, where she served her community and church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with commitment. She held notable positions as the Relief Society President and Primary President. Gloria was a compassionate woman who took immense pride in caring for her family and friends and she was known for always looking out for the underdog. Her professional life was equally fulfilling, having spent many years as an XRAY Technician and Shuttle Driver for the Morton/Thiokol Corporation before retiring in 1990. Her commitment to safety earned her several awards, a testament to her meticulous and dedicated nature. In her leisure time, Gloria was an avid gardener and a culinary enthusiast, with a particular passion for canning and cooking. Her ability to crochet beautiful items was admired by all. Gloria had a special bond with her dear friends Jay and Colleen Newman, who stood by her through the many ups and downs life presented. Her life embodied the verse from the Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 31:20, “Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men.” Gloria is survived by her loving daughters Terri Hemmert (Blane), Angela Aston (David), Joni Mitchell (Bryan); son Joe Roper; her cherished grand children, great grand children, and great-great grand child; and her brother Jerry Wallace. She was preceded in death by her son Leon Kenneth Nicholas her parents William Wallace and Phyllis Daggett; and her siblings Orville J Pilcher, Annette Kidd, Ann Gardner, Mary Shoemaker, Bob Wallace, Jim Wallace, Delores Rezendes and other loved ones before her. A special thank you to Brighton Assisted Living, Canyon Home Care and Hospice, and the Perry 7th ward who showed unwavering service and love. A public viewing will be held for Gloria at the Perry 7th Ward on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 6:00pm MDT.
