Julia Etcheverry

Aug 30, 2023

January 22, 1926 — August 27, 2023

Julia Etcheverry passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023 at the age of 97. Her legacy is one of giving and caring for others. She was born on January 22, 1926 in Magna, Utah to Joseph and Clara Farell Brusatto. She graduated from Cyprus High School in 1944 and Holy Cross Nursing School in 1947.

After nursing school, she moved to Ogden, Utah where she met the love of her life, Raymond Etcheverry. They were married on September 25, 1948 and were together for the next 68 years until Raymond passed away in June 2016. Together, they had five children, Claire Etcheverry (Roland Young), Fair Oaks, CA; Raymond J. Etcheverry (Kathy), Salt Lake City, Utah; Daniel Etcheverry (Anita), Layton, Utah; Josette Etcheverry, San Pedro, CA and Julie Sullivan (Mike), Ogden, Utah.

Julia had a distinguished nursing career spanning 35 years, the last 25 of which she served as the Head Nurse/Clinical Coordinator of Pediatrics at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Over her career she cared for literally thousands of children with compassion and love. It was impossible for her to walk down the streets of Ogden without someone approaching her and thanking her for caring for their child.

Julia was a wonderful loving woman who always put the needs of others first, and in turn was deeply loved by her family and many dear friends. In her retirement she crocheted beautiful afghan blankets for each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. She was a voracious reader and leaves behind a Kindle containing hundreds of books. Her favorite outing over the recent years was to attend “sisters’ lunch” on Tuesdays with her daughter-in-law Kathy and Kathy’s three sisters, Lynn Chazen, Gail Mikolash and Janet Perry and Gail’s husband Lowell Mikolash.

For the past six years, Julia has lived at Sunrise of Sandy Assisted Living where she befriended virtually all her fellow residents. The family would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted her during those years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, brothers Frank Brusatto, Jim Brusatto, Joseph Brusatto and her sister Mary Spigarelli. She is survived by her sister Joann Toole, her five children, nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Her generous love and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9757 South 1700 East, Sandy. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
