Gerlynn Frank Westergard

Dec 4, 2023

Gerlynn Frank Westergard, 72, died Friday December 1, 2023, from unexpected complications after heart surgery.

Born January 20, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, to Frank Christian and Emeretta Lavern Nielsen Westergard. He was raised in rural Farr West where he enjoyed great friends and experiences. A lifelong resident of Farr West, he was fortunate to be able to build his home on the family homestead. He stayed close with his family and was a supportive son and brother. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities. He served a full-time mission in Northern California.

On February 20, 1976, he married Vurlia Hall in the Ogden Temple. Together they raised 7 children and 23 grandchildren. Gerlynn was a hard worker who enjoyed projects and was an all-around fix-it man. He loved creating and designing plans and bringing them to life. He used his time and talents to help many, especially his children. Gerlynn’s lifelong joy was being a husband, father, and grandpa.

Gerlynn loved spending time with all of his family and friends. He always had a fresh batch of popcorn ready for whoever showed up. He also loved to drive. It didn’t matter the destination; it was all about the journey. Grandpa made sure to have enough car seats so that every grandkid who wanted to join was able to. According to him he never took the long way, it was just the “scenic” route.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Gerlynn’s memory, Vurlia would like you to take your family to get a hamburger and ice cream.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Len, brother and sister-in-law Dean and Cheryl Hall, father-in-law Denton Hall, and his sweet granddaughter Lindsy Westergard. He is survived by his wife Vurlia, children: Gary (Becki) Westergard, Katie (Ryan) Brown, Karla (Lance) Adams, Boyd (Kyrie) Westergard, Annie (Braden) Smith, Jenilyn (Matthew) Brown, Maren (Tyler) Robinson, siblings: Lurlene Westergard, Delwyn (Pauline), Len (deceased) (Diane), Max (Marcel), mother-in-law Alda Lee Hall, In-laws: Bruce & Sharon Hall, Ed & Britney Hall, Blake & Jessica Hall, Jerry & JoAnn Hall, Reed & Nadine Hall, Janetta & Dave Anderson, Donna & Jeff Hurt, and many special nieces and nephews.

All memorial services will be held at the Farr West stake center 2132 W 2700 N, Farr West Utah. The funeral will be Saturday December 9, 2023 at 11:00am, with a viewing prior from 9:30am-10:30am.
