Helen Boman Cragun

Dec 4, 2023

Helen Boman Cragun, the last of a generation, has passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones on December 1, 2023. Helen was born on June 20, 1931, twenty minutes before her twin sister Eloise, to Robert W. and Odessie H. Boman. Helen learned hard work on the Boman farm and gained lifelong skills with a nurturing will.

She was educated in Lewiston and graduated from North Cache High and LDS Seminary in Richmond. She married her high school sweetheart, Marion “Bus” Cragun, November 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. She lived in Lewiston, Moab, Ogden, and in Washington Terrace where she remained for 65 years.

Helen worked at the Lewiston State Bank and later retired from Weber School District as a lunch unit manager. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Helen served in many leadership positions faithfully.

The greatest day of the week for Helen was teeing off with her three golf buddies as they traveled throughout Utah putting and laughing on the course with lunch as the highlight. One special event was the time they traveled to Washington for a golf vacation. Helen LOVED sports of every kind. She watched tennis, football, baseball, golf and everything ESPN had to offer, but she was loyal to the Utah Jazz! She never missed a game and loved discussing everything Jazz including falling asleep to her sports talk radio. She was a talented seamstress and quilter. She was an avid reader and grew award winning lettuce and tomatoes. She was the pioneer of many traditions including “Grandma’s Christmas Grab Bag.” And could be heard saying, “Be careful what you start.” Helen had a wicked sense of humor and the most contagious laugh.

She adored her grandchildren and sat through many rodeos, dance recitals, soccer games, football and baseball games. The visits from her great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart that always took place from the view of her rocking chair.

Helen is survived by her children Carol (Brian) Johnson, Hooper; Kim (Jan) Cragun, Ephraim; Cathy Wagner, Kent, WA; and Ferris (Carolyn) Yazzie, South Jordan; 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Mary Boman.

Helen was preceeded in death by her parents, loving husband, brothers, Lewis, Wendell, and Dean Boman, and sisters LaPreal Dominguez, Eloise Stocks, and son-in-law Robert Wagner.
