Molly Gomez

Dec 6, 2023

Molly Gomez, born Molly Chacon on June 5, 1930, in Montrose, Colorado, was the embodiment of compassion, humility, reliability, and spirit. Known to her loved ones as Gramma Tope, and memie, Molly lived a life that was as warm as the flannel pajamas she lovingly sewed for her family. A native of Del Norte, Colorado, Molly was a spirited woman who found joy in the simplest things. She was a homemaker by profession, a role she filled with such dedication and love, creating a home that was a haven of warmth and love for her family.

Molly’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family. When her first granddaughter was born, she made the humble yet profound decision to quit her job to help raise her two granddaughters. Molly was a reliable pillar of strength and support, living a life that was a testament to her steadfast love for her family. Her love for life was mirrored in her hobbies. She had a passion for sewing, crocheting, camping, and fishing, activities she shared with her husband and family. Her home in Ogden, Utah, was always filled with the soft hum of her sewing machine as she crafted flannel pajamas for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. They would purposely forget their own, knowing that Gramma Tope would happily make them a new set. She loved to listen and dance Mexican music. She loved to have her family, her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters and her nieces and nephews in her home. She was also well known for her “Molly’s Tamales.”

Molly’s compassionate spirit and humble nature will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who survive her. She is survived by her daughter, Christina Morales and her husband, Jose; her granddaughters, Monica Sorensen and her husband, Dewain; Adrianna Morales and her husband, Ray, and her great-grandchildren, Molly Morales, Dominique Morales, Victoria Shelstead, Pete Turrbiartez and a great-great-granddaughter, Araceli Turrbiartez. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Pablo and Margarita Chacon, and her beloved husband, Phil Gomez.

Molly’s family would like to thank IHC hospice for their compassion and care the past 8 months. And a very special thank you to Nurse Julie for her care and love that she showed towards Molly and our family, we all love and appreciated her so much.
