Bruce Wade Merrell

Bruce Wade Merrell, 72, passed away on December 8, 2023, at his home in Brigham City, Utah. Bruce will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Bruce was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on February 9, 1951, to parents Paul and Isabel Merrell. Bruce was known for his kind and humorous nature. He had a knack for storytelling and could always bring a smile to anyone’s face. People gravitated to him, and word of his kind and loving ways was well known.

He was a long-time Brigham City native, and proud of his heritage. His love for Brigham City ran deep. He worked at the family business, Merrell’s Lumber, through high school and college, and was known for his strong work ethic. After his time there, he worked for Honeyville Grain for 37 years, leaving a lasting impact and legacy on the company into his retirement.

He attended Box Elder High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Utah State University. He excelled in athletics, participating in football, and track and field at Box Elder. He also played football for Utah State.

Bruce was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his high school sweetheart, Sherri Sherratt, in the Ogden Utah Temple on June 24th, 1972. Bruce was a family man and was proud of his posterity. His selflessness and loyalty to them knew no bounds. He prioritized his family above all, and his greatest joy came from spending time together.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his love for the great outdoors was contagious. Bruce was a converted BYU Football Fan later in life and could often be found cheering on the Cougars with his kids and grandkids.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Sherri Merrell, their five children: Maggie (Erik) Richardson, Jennifer (Johnny) Ferry, Angie (Nathan) Hyde, Cameron (Natalie Buttars) Merrell, Justin (Sarah Keyes) Merrell, and sisters: Jane (Reid) Goodlife and Mary Ann (Mike) Crofts. He was also a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Aimee, mother, Isabel Merrell, father, Paul Merrell, and father-in-law Lowell Sherratt Jr. Bruce Wade Merrell will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and love for all. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 6:00 -­ 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Brigham City, Utah to honor Bruce’s life. Memorial Services will follow, held on Friday, December 15, 2023, with a short Viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at his childhood church building located at 25 North 300 East in Brigham City, Utah.
