Jerine Jones Barney

Dec 12, 2023

September 6, 1936 — December 11, 2023

Jerine was born in 1936 in Providence Utah, the daughter of Karma and Myrl Jones. She had one sibling, her sister Gloria, who remained her closest friend until Gloria’s passing eight months ago.

As a young girl, Jerine lived in a variety of places, including a tent on the banks of the Weber River, a family farm in Cache Valley, Tooele, and Bonneville Park in Ogden. Her teenage years were spent in Ogden, where she attended both Ogden and Ben Lomond High Schools.

While at Ogden High she met her future husband, Lloyd Barney. Lloyd and Jerine began dating and were married on July 27, 1956.

For several years Jerine worked as a bookkeeper for Smith’s Food King. She was skilled with numbers and could add with unusual speed. She loved playing games involving arithmetic, whether a board game, cards, or rolling dice. Even at age 80 Jerine could embarrass any Yahtzee competitor by the speed with which she could accurately add the columns of numbers.

In 1994 Jerine and Lloyd built a home on a piece of farmland in Plain City. They enjoyed their adventure as small-time cattle ranchers. Jerine would name the animals – the first three were Hamburger, Cheeseburger, and T-bone.

Jerine is survived by her husband Lloyd, her son Dwayne Barney (Roxy) and daughter Gayle Dalpias (Mike). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Crystal Rasmussen (Derek), Candace Keisel (Bryan), Casey Dalpias (Natalie), Cody Barney (Rae), Traci Barney Jacobs, and Ashley Thatcher (Richard) along with eleven great grandchildren.

Jerine’s family was her highest priority. Whether called upon to tote kids to a ski race, attend a dance recital, or temporarily tend a pet, Jerine and Lloyd could always be trusted to come through. When failing health started making participation at events impossible, Jerine’s favorite pastime was to chat about her family and their various activities.

Jerine was preceded in death by her parents Myrl and Karma, and by her cherished sister Gloria. Upon her passing, the family is comforted in trusting that Jerine and Gloria have been reunited. While we are going to deeply miss her, memories of Jerine will remain with us. Borrowing the words of Hellen Keller; “True Friends are Never Apart, Maybe in Distance but Never in Heart.”

Jerine’s family will hold a small graveside service on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Providence Cemetery, Providence, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist Ogden Mortuary.
