Erma Wilson

Dec 17, 2023

1924 — 2023

She can only be described as an incredible mother. We have been so blessed to have our beautiful mom for as long as we did. We never once doubted the great love she had for us. She passed away on December 8, 2023, just one month shy of her 100th birthday. As hard as it is to say goodbye, we are so happy she has been reunited with our dad; something she has longed for since he passed.

Erma Hartley Wilson was born on January 7, 1924, to Cyril H. and Lillian LaVena Larsen Hartley. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1942, where she met the love of her life, Doug Wilson. They married on August 10, 1944; a marriage that lasted over 75 years. On June 11, 1964, they solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mom worked for Defense Depot Ogden, Radio Station KLO and Ogden City Bus Lines. She worked for two Naval Bases: one in Norman, OK and the other in San Luis Obisbo, TX. She also worked for Western Auto, Internal Revenue Service, Mountain Fuel Supply Company, and the Huntsville Post Office.

She and dad moved to Huntsville, UT on February 8, 1953. They became involved in the town and were active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings. In 1962, she and her friend, Nellie Newey, began compiling a history of Huntsville and mom devoted the rest of her life to this endeavor.

Mom was an avid reader and loved mysteries. She enjoyed camping with her family where they would spend hours playing games. Her grandchildren will always remember the New Year’s Eve party she would have for them every year and the game “Hide the Thimble” they always played. She loved to crochet and was a beautiful seamstress, making most of her children’s clothes and many beautiful quilts.

Erma is survived by daughter-in-law Nancy Wilson of Huntsville; daughter LeAnn Tracy (Stephen) of Plain City; sons David Ben (JaNeil) Wilson of Farmington, Kurt Douglas Wilson of Huntsville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Wilbur Wilson and Sister-in-law Alice Hartley. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son Michael H. Wilson; brothers Lynn and Verl Hartley; sisters Nelda Hadley, Afton Wilson, and Shirley Mendenhall.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the employees of Cogir of Lotus Park, also Sarraya and Kristi of A+ Hospice for their exceptional care of our mother.

A private family gathering was held to honor her. Internment to be in the Huntsville Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
