October 22, 1947 — December 16, 2023

With profound sadness and a deep sense of loss, we announce the passing of Richard Harold VanDyke, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, missionary, soldier, Box Elder Search and Rescue member, entrepreneur, restaurateur, chocolatier, and public servant. Richard left us on December 16, 2023, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of diverse achievements and a life rich in experiences. Born on October 22, 1947, to Harold VanDyke and Elizabeth Knudson, Richard’s journey through life was nothing short of extraordinary. His commitment to serving others was evident through his time as a LDS missionary and his service as a soldier in the Army in the medical field, showcasing his dedication to both faith and country. As an entrepreneur and restaurateur, he brought joy and culinary delight to many, and his skills as a candy maker and chocolatier were not just professions but passions that allowed him to share sweetness and happiness with the world. Richard’s leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping a brighter future for his community. He cherished the time he spent as a Box Elder County Commissioner. Away from his professional endeavors, Richard found solace and sanctuary in the great outdoors at his beloved Lava Ranch property. It is here where he immersed himself in the tranquility of nature with his beloved friends and family. These moments of peace amidst the natural beauty were a source of great joy and rejuvenation for him. Rich was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elizabeth Dye. Richard’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife of 38 years (Shari VanDyke); his children Dana (Josh) Hemphill, JR (Korilynn) VanDyke, Erik VanDyke, Jake (Victoria) Bond, His two very special bonus children Josh (Angie) Knickmeier, and Matt (Misty) Knickmeier, and many grandchildren and a great-grandchild who adored their Papa. Richard’s life was a remarkable tapestry of service, love, creativity, and leadership. He was a pillar of strength and kindness to his family, a guiding light in his community, and a man whose life was as rich and multifaceted as the chocolates he so lovingly crafted. A public viewing will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E 200 S., Brigham City, Utah. We will celebrate his amazing life with family and friends at a later date. Rich’s life was a journey of love, dedication, and enduring impact. He will be deeply missed but his spirit will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Send condolences www.gfc-utah.com
