Barbara (Brain) Greiner Anderson

Barbara (Brain) Greiner Anderson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on December 18, 2023, at age 97.

She was born to Richard James Brain and Blanche Tipper Hudson on September 15, 1926. After graduating from Monmouth School for Girls, Barbara worked several jobs in support of the war effort in England. She worked for the Birmingham Public Libraries, the Raleigh Bicycle Company (that were making aircraft parts during the war), then went to work for the Post Office Engineering Department as a chemist. She attended Aston Technical College in Birmingham until 1948.

Barbara later traveled to the United States to help her sister Greta with her young son. While she was in Utah she met her first husband, John J. Greiner, they were married in September 1949. He passed away in 1989. Together, they had four sons, Jon (Christy), William (Barbara), Paul (Tracy), and James (Nancy). In 1995 she married a longtime friend, Darrell W. Anderson, and acquired a stepson Stephen (Noreen) Anderson.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden. She along with Darrell attended the First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was an active member for over 60 years of the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine.

Barbara graduated from Weber State College with a BS in Medical Technology in 1966. She was involved from the beginning with the Health Occupation program at Weber State as a clinical faculty member until she retired in 1984. She worked at the Dee Hospital and then later at McKay-Dee Hospital. While at McKay-Dee she was the Lab Manager. She retired in 1984 after working in the lab for 18 years.

Upon retirement she spent many years volunteering for various organizations. She took the time to learn Spanish to help her husband John with children going to Shriner’s Crippled Children Hospital in Salt Lake City. Later she and Darrell spent many years volunteering for the Ogden Police Department. They gave a lot of volunteer time helping the police department prepare for the 2002 Olympics.

Barbara is survived by her 4 sons, 1 stepson, 11 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 10 great-grandsons, and 9 great-granddaughters. She was also expecting 2 more great-grandchildren to be born this year and early next year. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; second husband, Darrell; her parents, her sister, a niece, and daughter-in-law, Telitha Lindquist Greiner

Cremation under the direction of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Inurnment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when the family can all get together.
