Kent L. Sutherland

Dec 29, 2023

Feb. 17, 1929 – Dec. 28, 2023

It is with a deep sense of reverence and love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Kent L Sutherland on December 28, 2023. Born on February 17, 1929, in Fielding, Utah, Kent was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. He was a man of strong convictions and steadfast faith in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which he served with unwavering commitment throughout his life.

After serving in the Army, Kent lived in California and Oklahoma for a time before settling in Ogden where he married Jean Stanger on May 14, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for 64 years.

Kent’s love for the great outdoors began in his youth and continued throughout his life. His passion for hunting and fishing was only surpassed by his love for helping others. This love translated into a career with Hill Air Force Base, where he worked as an Equipment Specialist until his retirement in 1994.

Kent’s devotion to his faith was evident in his service as a Bishops Counselor to two Bishops, a High Counselor, a Bishop, a mission at Temple Square, and an Inner-City Mission. He also proudly served in Scouting for many years, imbuing in the next generation the values of integrity, perseverance, and service.

Kent is survived by his wife Jean, daughter-in-law Jill Sutherland, sons Blair (Ginger), Von (Staci) and Greg (Tina). He was preceded in death by his father Erwin Sutherland and his mother Alene Sainsbury, 3 brothers, a sister and his son Kyle.
