George S. Inouye

Feb 7, 2023

George S. Inouye passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2023.

Dad was born February 18, 1925 to Takematsu and Miyoe Miyamoto Inouye in Vacaville, CA.

He started school in Vacaville and then the family moved to Isleton, CA until World War II broke out and the family was sent to the Walerga Assembly Center. From there they were sent to Tule Lake Internment Center.

When the war ended in 1945, the family moved to Roy, UT to work in a cannery. They lived in an army tent until they were able to rent a small farm; their ambition was always to own their own farm. In 1962, after a lot of hard work and many sacrifices, they were able to make this come to fruition by purchasing a farm in Hooper, UT.

Although Dad graduated from Tule Lake High School, the Rio Vista Class of 1942 always invited him to their reunions. He attended many of them throughout the years and enjoyed reconnecting with people.

Dad married Yuriko Sayama in 1955. She passed in 2015 and he missed her very much. They had four children together, a daughter and three sons. He was very proud of his children, especially because they attended and paid for their own higher education.

His thought on life was that you can always find good things going on, even in bad times, with good friends and neighbors. Dad had an abundance of both.

He was a member of the Ogden Buddhist Church and served as President of the Japanese Farmers Association (Nokai). He was always willing to help friends and family, especially if it involved fishing.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Rick), sons; Kent and Ronald (Monica), sister, Miyoko Takushi, as well as 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Yuriko; son Gerald; his parents; sisters; Jane, Gloria, and Barbara; brother Takeharu.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North Street, Ogden, Utah at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held Friday, February, 10, 2023 at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah 6:00 - 8:00 PM and prior to services at the church 10:00- 10:45 AM.
