Lois Limburg Crowell
Lois Limburg Crowell at the age of 91, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ogden, Utah to Madge and Evert Limburg on July 1, 1931.
She grew up living in the back of a ma and pa store, “The Limburg Store.” She helped in the store especially when her dad was away serving in World War ll. She loved her childhood where she grew up with her younger brother, Val, and friends to play with on Child’s Avenue. She has fond memories from that era. She attended public schools in Ogden and is proud to say she graduated from the historic Ogden High School.
After high school she attended Utah State University where she studied business because she enjoyed bookkeeping for her father’s grocery business. Her dad flew her in a small airplane back and forth from school sometimes on the weekends. During her college days, she pledged to Sigma Kappa Sorority where she was involved.
After a couple of years, she changed her path, left school, and joined the workforce. She worked for Badger Lumber in Ogden as bookkeeper. While working for Badger, she was part of the Women’s Association and met some friends in the club. These friends set her up with a tall dark handsome man who she instantly fell head-over-hills for. Ed, Horace Everett Crowell, a native of Massachusetts, was stationed at Hill in the air force. They enjoyed dating and loved dancing especially the twist. Ed was transferred to San Antonio, Texas. With him being away, his proposal was an engagement ring arriving through the mail. They were married on July 9, 1952. They had a brief honeymoon to Bear Lake where they shivered in a cabin without heat but loved their memory. Ed had to return to San Antonio a few days later for military service and shortly after was to report to Korea. She stayed home with her parents and worked while awaiting his return. After serving his time in the military, he finished his career as a civilian at Hill AFB in Clearfield.
They were blessed with two sons and raised their family in Ogden. Lois worked for Weber Basin Water and retired after working for 29 years. She saw the advancement of technology in those years. She loved camping, boating, and deer hunting with her family and friends. She made the tastiest Dutch oven meals. Lois and Ed enjoyed golfing with family and friends. One of her favorite vacationing spots was Island Park in Idaho. After retirement she and Ed made their home in Beaver Dam, AZ in the winter and Shadow Valley in the summer months. She loved spending time with her family and had many traditions with them.
After celebrating 60 years of marriage, Ed passed away in 2012. Lois was sealed to him shortly after in the Salt Lake temple. Lois continued to be an active member and served her neighbors and family. She was always so generous in making donations to various charities.
She was an example to others taking on technology in her 80’s and managing it well. Lois always pushed through never complaining when she had health and other challenges.
Lois was blessed with dear friends in Malad, ID and was blessed to live most recently in West Haven where she had close friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her two sons, Kip (Lu Ann) Crowell, Uintah Highlands, and Scott (Ilene) Crowell, South Weber. Seven grandchildren, Corey (Alisa) Crowell, Christine (Nate) Floto, Kendra (Ben) Rabe, Craig (Lyndsi) Crowell, Derek Crowell, Chad (Megan) Crowell, and Trisha (Chad) Andrews, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Sister-in-law Jan Limburg, Greg (Lynette) Limburg, and Debbie (Steve) Paskett.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed, her parents, Madge and Evert Limburg, and her brother, Val Limburg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Kanesville Stake Center, 4555 W. 4000 S., West Haven. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, February 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836, 36 Street in Ogden and Friday, at the stake center from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Interment, Lindquist Memorial of the Wasatch.
