Karen Joy Yates

Karen Yates, 81, returned home to her loving Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. She was born on May 18, 1941, to Harvy Stokes and Fern Romer in Brigham City, Utah. Later in life, Karen was blessed to have Sherwood Blaylock become her stepfather. She attended Box Elder schools and graduated from Box Elder High School.

She married the love of her life, Kent Yates, in the Logan Temple on July 22, 1959. They were married for 63 wonderful years.

Karen is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held numerous callings, to name a couple, she was a Cub Scout Leader and a Stake Primary President. She also served a service mission with her dear husband at the Bishops Store House. She was faithful to all the callings she was given.

She worked as a dental assistant for Mary Peterson Reeder and served as a school lunch lady for the Box Elder School District for 18 years.

Karen enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, canning, gardening, supporting her grandchildren in 4H and sporting events, 4-wheeling, and taking care of the farm animals. She was an ultimate party planner for family and loved to celebrate all the holidays.

She had a joyful personality, loved to serve others, a hard worker, dependable, and faithful. A person everyone could look up to.

Her children are very appreciative to their father for the love and care given to their mother.

Karen is survived by her dear husband, Kent, children: Brenda Goodfellow (Michael), Mary Jo Jenson (Chris), Carla Willard, Neal Yates (Valerie), Emily Holden (Kyle), and Rebecca Cook (Chris); her brother Darrell Stokes (Carol); 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter Sarah Ann Yates.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life to greet family and friends on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from 5:00 ­- 7:00 p.m. at the Brigham City North Stake Center, 620 North 300 East, Brigham City, Utah, refreshments will be provided. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow in the Calls Fort Cemetery.
