Jul 5, 2023

April 25, 1938 — June 30, 2023

Betty Ann Lyle Johansen, born April 25, 1938 in Ogden, Utah, passed away June 30, 2023 at her home in South Ogden, Utah surrounded by family. Betty was the daughter of John Carlton Lyle and Betty McBride and graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1956. She married Jerry George Johansen on October 14, 1955 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on May 11, 1964. Betty spent the majority of her life in the Ogden area with the last 66 years at her residence in South Ogden.

Betty was always busy and worked to contribute to the family income by babysitting, helping her husband at Inkley’s, scooping ice-cream at Farr’s, and helping children safely cross the street on 40th and Madison as a crossing guard. She told some great stories about the cars that wouldn’t slow down for the children.

Betty was a member of the DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) and served in the leadership of that organization. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous positions including two stints as Relief Society President in the South Ogden 38th and now 3rd Ward. Betty especially enjoyed serving as an Ogden Temple worker and cherished those associations and service to others.

Betty and Jerry served the community through the Jaycees and Kiwanis Clubs. Mom was an avid traveler and loved hiking area mountains. She traveled throughout much of the United States. She also enjoyed cruises to New Zealand and Alaska, a Safari to Africa, and a trip to Belize. She would have liked to travel more.

Betty is survived by her four children, Jerry Bradley (Tamara) Johansen; Linda Kay (Thomas) Tidwell; Julie Ann (Gary) Turner; Vickie Lynne (Ty) Coniglio; a daughter-in-law, Sara Denise Johansen; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Charlene Lyle Bassett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her youngest son, Peter Lyle Johansen; parents; and her younger brother, David Carlton Lyle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the South Ogden 3rd Ward Chapel, 4075 Orchard Avenue. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
