David Farr, Sr.

Jul 18, 2023

On July 16, 2023, the world lost a loving and adventurous soul, David Farr, Sr. Born on February 2, 1940, David led a life that was as vibrant and colorful as the photographs he captured in his job as a forensic photographer for the State of Utah. Always the first to hit the slopes or cast a line into the river, his 83 years were filled with moments of laughter and a generous serving of his supportive and thoughtful spirit.

David lived life like he was skiing down a mountain - fast, with all the bumps and turns faced head-on, and always with a sense of adventure. From his humble beginnings in Ogden, he found the love of his life, Linda Urry working at the Frost Top. They were married Oct. 22, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they moved to the bustling city of Morgan to raise their sons on a farm and later settled in Layton to raise their daughters.

His career with the State of Utah Department of Public Safety gave him an outlet for his keen eye, leading to a Distinguished Service Medal from the Department. But, he wasn’t just about the crime scenes and close-ups; he was also a fly-fishing enthusiast, a master of tying flies, and a dedicated ward clerk. His Sundays were for church and his Mondays were for the slopes.

David was a family man at heart, always making sure to be there for his children: David (Tracey) Farr Jr., Douglas (Mateo) Farr, Heidi Christensen, Holly (Trent) Merritt; his 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

His love for family was as deep as a Utah snowdrift and as enduring as his fly-fishing line.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Leola Farr; his beloved wife, Linda Farr; and a son-in-law, Brent Christensen; two brothers, Kenneth and Owen; a sister, Leola Jensen; and one grandchild, Christian Merritt. Their memories were always with him, reminders of the love and warmth that he also extended to those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Friends and family are invited to share stories, laughter, and maybe a few tears at Myers Mortuary in Layton on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 6-8 pm. There will be another viewing on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 9:30-10:30 am at the Oak Ridge Ward, 2250 East 2200 North, Layton, Utah with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park.

In the words of David, “Life isn’t about the fish you catch, but the memories you reel in.” So let’s continue his legacy by sharing our memories of him and his adventures on his memorial page at www.myers-mortuary.com, so we can all remember him in the way he would have wanted – with a smile on our faces and fond memories in our heart.
