Harry Mitsumasa Sayama 1944 – 2023 of Bountiful, UT, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at home. Harry was an adventurous, fun-loving and a kind friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a great sense of humor that everyone loved. His smile was so big and bright!

He was born on June 28, 1944 in Brigham City, UT, to Hiroshi and Kiyoko Sayama (Shirai).

Harry grew up and worked on the family farm in West Corinne. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1962 and lettered in wrestling. While raising a young family, he worked at Hill Air Force Base and attended Weber State University. He received a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and had a career as an Aerospace engineer for the Navy. After a 34-year career, he retired in 2002.

Harry enjoyed restoring old classic cars. He especially loved his 55 and 57 Chevys.

Spending time playing with his grandchildren and attending their special events were very important to him; he always looked forward to them.

He was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz and the University of Utah Utes.

He always wanted to watch Westerns on TV. His favorite singers were John Denver, Olivia Newton John, Celine Dion, Anne Murray, and Adele. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. His favorite destinations for food and fun were Hawaii and Japan.

He was the devoted father of Douglas (Joann), Lisa Ferrin (Scott), and Marcie Smith (Brock), from his first marriage. In 1980, he married Sandra Shiba and together they had two sons, Kasey (Belinda Trieu) and Seve. He had 11 grandchildren, Brady, Tanesha, Trace, Sydnie, Alexis, Nicolas, Shaunae, Miranda, Savanna, Elliot, and Eevie and many great-grandchildren. He is survived by his three brothers, Yoshio, Dale, and Junior. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and, great-grandson Trayden.

The family would like to thank Harry’s caregivers Henrietta and Tina, with Brightstar Care; Laura, with Intermountain Health Hospice, and Marilou, for their skilled and thoughtful help.

A memorial service will be held at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W, Roy, UT, on Friday July 21, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Guests may visit with family from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
