Kent Dale Cevering

1946 – 2023

On March 3, 2023 a mighty giant of a man finally got his final wish to fly high in the sky.

Kent Dale Cevering was born June 22, 1946 to Herman Leonard Cevering and Leola Blanche Williams in Ogden, Utah. He was the second child of seven children: Larry (Judy) Cevering, Janice (Richard) Garner, Gail (Deloy) Hamblin, Lynn (Paul Schrier) Cevering, Kelly Cevering, Terry (Cathie) Cevering. He attended school in Ogden and graduated from Weber High.

He married Debbie Allen and from this union two children were born, Blake Cevering and Jackie Cevering. His grandchildren from this union are: Colby, Michael, Audrey, Mikayla (Corban) Gibson and a great grandson Kanaloa Gibson. They divorced after 20 years and remained friends.

He later married the love of his life Jody Norris on October 31, 1990 and welcomed her two children Courtney Norris and Allison Norris (Doug Talbert). In their 32 ½ years together they embarked on many adventures. He taught her to shoot guns safely and not his foot, took her hunting which she excelled at until he told her the animal was cute and it ended with no harvest. He was not big on diamonds but oh the guns, cars (Olivia) and special projects he built for her were never matched. He was her biggest cheerleader when it came to her many adventures running and things, she wanted him to make. They loved each other tremendously and built a wonderful life together. She will forever be his “Babe”.

He was Papa to his grandchildren: Jerika (Tiny) Hackleman, Jessalyn (Pigeon) Kent Norris (Brandon Simpson Jr). Brandon (Arin) Talbert, Jared (Brittny) Toothaker, Zachary (Chelsea) Toothaker, Abbey (Lawson) Baber, Wade Toothaker, Holly (Taylor) Bosley, Mya (Tyler Spaulding) Balli. He also had two very special son in-laws: Doug Talbert and Jerry Toothaker.

Recently he was blessed with a great granddaughter Ellie Talbert who he always asked for updates and pictures. He was also awaiting another special great granddaughter, Baby M, who is now keeping her great grandfather company until he sends her to us in May. At least he will hold this baby!

His life was full of mountain adventures, hunting with his brothers and best friend/ex father-in-law, camping with his girls, yearly family reunions, and enjoying the great outdoors to its fullest. He spent many summers on Sourdough with his “girls,” chasing robins in Bubba, catching and killing Jessa’s first fish (apparently no one told her that knocking the fish on a rock was natural). He loved grilling on the BBQ and cooking with his Tiny (Jerika) and teaching her how to roll his famous burritos. He lived life in the fast lane building and driving race cars, to jumping out of planes for the pure hell of it. He spent his working career in the glass business working for Northern Utah Glass and Crittenden Paint & Glass. In 2001 he followed family footsteps opening a successful glass business, K & K Glass, Inc., with his brother Kelly.

He was a self-made man that you respected and loved for his gruffness and words of wisdom, whether you asked for them or not. He had no greater joy than taking his “girls” every week, teaching them to drive on the back roads, and teaching them the ways of the world through his eyes. Hunting and shooting were another main love for him and he enjoyed doing both with friends and family as often as he could. His Willie Nelson pony tail, love for Dew & Whisky Sours, his homemade Navajo tacos, and no-nonsense attitude will be greatly missed.

Towards the end of his ride, he learned grace for hugs, “you too” and “ditto” were said more often as I love you were words, he spared for very special and rare occasions, and he treasured every family moment he had as it was precious to him.

If he had any regrets it was not being told sooner that the end was near so he could buy a pack of smokes and enjoy his last moments. Oh, and the secret desire to grow his weed in the crawl space. Who knew!

It is never goodbye, just see you later. “Ditto” and the sign language for “I love You” is his final send off!

Cremation is with Leavitt’s Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah 84403.

There will be no services per Kent’s final wishes.
