May 24, 1923 — April 29, 2023

PLEASANT VIEW-Shirley Marjorie (Arnold) Hanzelka passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her home in Pleasant View, Utah, less than one month from her 100th Birthday. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born on May 24, 1923, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Frederick Arthur, Jr. and Lillian (Burton) Arnold.

She graduated from Ogden High School, and shortly after the start of World War II she started working at Hill Air Force Base in the procurement division. While working there she met her future husband, Cyril W. Hanzelka, who was a young sailor stationed at nearby Clearfield Navy Depot. They were married shortly after the war, on October 24, 1945.

After Cyril completed his service in 1947 the couple settled in Ogden. She continued to work at Hill Field until the birth of their second child in 1964, and after a three-year break to nurture him, she went back to work at the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement in 1975.

After her retirement, the couple lived in Ogden, Garden City, and St. George, eventually returning to Pleasant View.

Together with her lifetime partner the couple enjoyed many activities including: camping, boating, snowmobiling and travel to places like Canada, Europe, and Hawaii. The couple particularly enjoyed spending time at Bear Lake and eventually purchased property and built a family cabin there. The joy of her life was her two sons, James and Tracey, and their children.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her husband Cyril Hanzelka, sister Barbara (Arnold) Walston, and brother Robert Arnold. She is survived by one sister Elaine (Arnold) Cottle, Sons James Hanzelka (Carol), Tracey Hanzelka (Thais). Five Grandchildren: Peter, Cheryl, Greg, Kyle, and Erika; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
