“BULLET” MERRELL WESLEY TURLEY

May 5, 2023

1949 – 2023

Born April 24th, 1949, to Gilbert Merrell and Myrtle Victoria Yorganson Turley. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 19th, 2023.

Merrell graduated from Ben Lomond High School, where he got the nickname “Bullet” for his fierce fast ball and many no hitter games

Merrell was drafted into the U.S Army and he later joined the U.S. Airforce Reserves. Where he found a love for skydiving. He was called “The Parachute Man”. He has thousands of successful sky diving jumps, and when asked about it he would chuckle and say, “Now why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”.

Merrell was an extensive traveler due to being in the military, and whether his trusty golf bag always followed suit or if he had to rent golf clubs, he always found a way to golf. His clubs were always packed before his suitcase was. He was very proud of his 7 Hole in Ones.

Merrell married Jayne Woodyatt and had two children, Lorie (Parry) Olsen, and Wesley (Jen) Turley. Merrell and Jayne were later divorced.

Merrell married the love of his life, Marilyn Kaye Dalton Turley. And gained 3 wonderful nephews. Jance (Autumn) Dalton, Grant (Sarah) Dalton, and Brad (Jessica) Dalton. He loved and cared for his beautiful wife until her passing in September of 2021. Together they golfed, cross stitched, quilted, travelled, and most importantly, loved each other deeply. Merrell was a true romantic, when he and Marilyn got married, they got married on 02-02-02 and 2:02 p.m. and .02 seconds. Merrell took his last breath at 4:03 p.m. which also happens to be Marilyn’s birthday April 3rd. We like to think he did this to let us know he was with her.

He has 3 sisters, Gerry (Gordon) White, Carol (Brad) Hines, and Lynnea (Alan) Stokes.

He has 5 grandchildren, Hunter Olsen, Riley Olsen, Gillian (Kyle) Patterson, Isaac Turley, and Xambree Turley who all adored spending time with grandpa, listening to his funny stories, and absorbing his jovial spirit.

He is survived by his sisters, children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Myrtle, and his wife Marilyn.

A celebration of life will be held on May 13, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center in West Haven at 3300 S. 4700 W. West Haven, Utah 84401

Dual Military Honors Graveside Services will be held for Merrell and Marilyn Turley on May 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Ogden City Cemetery 1875 Monroe Blvd. Ogden, Utah 84404
