December 18, 1946 — May 3, 2023

Gregory Jay German passed away at home on May 3, 2023 from natural causes.

Greg was born December 18, 1946 in Montello, NV to Jerold H. and Marian E. (Godfrey) German. He graduated from Weber High in 1965, after which he played football for the University of Wyoming. Greg was drafted during the Vietnam War and was honored to serve his country as a helicopter door gunner in the United States Army from 66′ - 69′. He was proud to have served during the Tet Offensive and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

While in the Army, Greg married Kathleen Strebel. They had two children, Benjamin and Kimberly, and were divorced years later. For over 20 years, he’s been with his partner in life, Cathy Lykins. Greg was a successful businessman who had many careers over the years: Weber County Sheriff’s, Lincoln Auto, Lincoln Truck & Equipment, and Western Truck & Trailer Sales among others.

Greg was always the life of the party. He loved going to coffee every morning to visit with his friends. You would be able to find him on the golf course, razor riding, and at nearby car shows. Grandpa German enjoyed driving his 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery in parades to promote his sons’ rodeos and the Weber County Fair for his granddaughter. He had a big heart and was considered a philanthropist.

Greg was preceded in death by his father Jerald Harold German, his mother Marian Elizabeth German, his brothers Larry German, Jeff (Dodie) German, and Jack (Debbie) German. He is survived by his partner Cathy Lykins, his brother Don (Ileen) German, sister Jennifer (Craig) Hayes, son Benjamin (Jennifer) German, daughter Kimberly Williams, daughter Angela (Darryl) Creel, many nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Greg was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

A celebration of life will be held at Copper Nickel (2450 Grant Ave. Ogden, UT 84401) on May 15 from 6 - 9 pm. Come join Greg’s loved ones in remembrance of a great man.
