Ruby A. Licona (Southhaven, MS) – Born July 16, 1945, Ruby Angelina Licona was the oldest daughter born to Rebeca and Virgilio Licona Sr in Corpus Christi, TX. Miss Ruby was escorted by her angels into the glorious hereafter on April 10th, Easter Monday, surrounded by her dear sons and close family. Siblings: Dr. Virgilio Licona -Deceased (Barbara), Linda Barnette Seaman, Maria Rebecca Dainotto; Edgar (Butch) Barnette, James (Eddie) Barnette. Sons: Eddie Whipple, Grant Whipple (Nicole) and Grandchildren, Mila and Cash.

She attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 1969; and earned her Master of Library Science from Louisiana State University in 1982.

She retired from Weber State University, Associate Professor Emerita of Library Science. May 2016 Ruby was an active member of the American Library Association and served on many national committees over her years as a member. She was also active in the Diversity team at Weber State University, hosting the Diversity Conference every year and a valued member of the Women’s Studies committee which sought to enhance the University curriculum to include awareness and historical significance of women’s issues.

Ruby adopted many younger members of the campus community wherever she served. She was a compassionate and generous person, a Christian who exhibited a most caring heart for those who felt marginalized and sage advice from a lifetime of paying attention to the details. She had such great stories of her time in N’Orlins, Louisiana, and her true Southern Hospitality was conveyed beautifully in her cooking and stylish decorum. She made a kickin’ Sangria too.

Ruby’s Memorial Requiem was held on April 17th at her home church in Southaven, Mississippi, St. Timothy’s Episcopal which you can view through this link: https://fb.watch/kuaMSHNkc6/
