Janice Santarelli Montgomery

Nov 6, 2023

July 19, 1949 — November 2, 2023

Our loving wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend Janice Santarelli Montgomery passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 2, 2023. She was born July 19, 1949, in Ogden, Utah. She was the first of two children born to Angelo and Jean Santarelli.

Janice married Lee Montgomery on September 20, 1969, in the Saint Joesph Catholic Church in Ogden, UT. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They spent many years together enjoying their summers at their cabin in Island Park, Idaho.

Janice was raised in Ogden, Utah. She had a passion for tap dancing, jazz and ballet and was a dance instructor for Pat and Ray’s Dance Studio as a teenager. She graduated from Bonneville High School and Weber State College of Cosmetology. She was extremely proud of being crowned Italian Days Queen.

She had a lifelong career as a beautician. She began her career at LR Samuels in downtown Ogden and Cobias Beauty Salon in Roy before operating her own salon from home. She spent many years of her career also working at Crestwood Care Center and Wasatch Care Center as a beautician.

She was always there for her family, neighbors, and church. She was PTA President for Valley View Elementary. She held various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Relief Society President, and a Compassionate Care Coordinator for young women.

Family traditions were very important to Janice. Her authentic Italian heritage was shown through her cooking, especially during the holidays. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking, baking, or canning. She catered numerous wedding receptions, dinners, and get togethers in her spare time over the years. Cooking was one of her greatest gifts. You never left her house hungry. You were always guaranteed to receive a Christmas goodie plate or a hot meal from her.

Janice cherished the time spent with her grandkids. She spent time with them baking and teaching them her family recipes. She was a constant, strong presence in their lives supporting them in all they did.

She was creative and spent a lot of time with her family and friends quilting, tole-painting, and doing ceramics.

Janice was resilient and determined despite facing many health challenges. She continued to push onward, consistently looking for ways that she could serve others. She truly exemplified, “Charity Never Faileth”.

Janice is survived by her husband, Lee Montgomery; her children, Chad Montgomery (Mark Scoggins) and Amie Jones (Kyle); her grandchildren, Kolbie and Abbie Jones; and her sister, Diane Hadley (Doug). She was preceded in death by her parents, Angelo Santarelli and Jean Busico Santarelli; and her in-laws, Arvil Montgomery and Wanda Parker Montgomery.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
