ROBERT J DELANGE

Nov 24, 2023

March 30, 1937 — November 14, 2023

Robert J DeLange (age 86) died at Avamere Care Center in South Ogden, Utah, on November 14, 2023, with his beloved wife Gaye by his side.

Robert (Bob) was born on March 30, 1937, in Richfield, Utah, to Talmage Young DeLange and Selena Mae Taylor DeLange, “two of the most wonderful parents one could ask for.” At age 8 Robert’s family moved to Ogden where he ultimately graduated from Ogden High in 1955. In 1957 he received an AS degree from Weber State College followed by serving an LDS mission in the North Central States (1957-1959). Soon after his mission he met Verlie Gaye Dayton on a blind date at the top of the Hotel Utah where they dined and danced. He knew he had found his soulmate. They were married on May 27, 1960, in the Logan Temple.

Robert received a BS degree in Chemistry from BYU (1961), and then a PhD in Biochemistry (1965) from the University of Washington in Seattle. He spent the next 30 years teaching and doing research at UCLA, while residing in Canoga Park/West Hills, CA and raising a family of 6 children: Robert Lance, Michael Dayton, Thayne Clarke, Eric Paul, Stephanie Gae, and Tyler Cameron.

In 1995 Robert and Gaye retired and returned to Ogden. They enjoyed their retirement years by traveling the world and visiting family and friends. They served in many different callings in the Church, including being Church Education Service senior missionaries in San Francisco, California, as ordinance workers in the Los Angeles and Ogden temples, and as service missionaries at the Ogden Family Search Library. Robert enjoyed playing the organ (including serving as ward organist), classical music, chess, gardening, and watching his children in their many activities.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, David Taylor. He is survived by his older brother, Talmage Junior, his wife, Gaye, his 6 children, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great-granddaughters.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held Saturday, December 2, at the Burch Creek Chapel, 4955 Adams Avenue, South Ogden with Viewing from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and Funeral Service at 11 AM.
