DeLoss Merril “Doc” Eggleston

DeLoss Merril “Doc” Eggleston passed away October 5, 2023 at age 97. He was born July 10, 1926, the youngest of 8 children of Joseph Smith Eggleston and Talitha Cuma Cheney, and was raised in Eden, UT. He attended Eden and Huntsville Elementary and Weber High School. He graduated from El Monte High School in California in 1944.

DeLoss served in the 106th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe.

He was one of the original faculty members at Ben Lomond High School where he taught French, History, Social Studies and Driver Education. He designed and supervised the construction of the Automobile Driving Range on Canyon Road for Ogden City Schools.

DeLoss married Joan Wheelwright June 22, 1951 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They raised five children: Paul, Ogden; Karen (Cary) Stark, Ogden; Jan (Daniel) Rescia, Concord, NH; Tracy (Jack) Sparks, Myrtle Beach, SC; Brent (Lisa) Eggleston, Lehi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings, his first child Etienne, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is survived by five of his children, 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

DeLoss was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, including teaching youth and adults, Ward Chorister, Ward Executive Secretary, Stake High Council, Ogden Temple Ordinance Worker and served missions in France and the SLC Family History Center.

A Celebration of his life will be held Friday October 13, 2023 between 6:00-8:00 p.m. at 2178 N 1200 E, in Lehi, UT. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family at the mortuary between 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, UT.
