Sharlene Ficklin

Oct 11, 2023

1934 — 2023

Our beloved and valiant mother, grandmother, wife, and daughter, Sharlene Kay Robertson Ficklin returned to her Heavenly Father on Oct 9, 2023. Her positive, happy countenance endeared her to all she met. She will be dearly missed, but left a legacy of love, courage, and faith to her family. Her example will live on in their lives for generations.

Sharlene was born on Nov 12, 1934, to Joseph Smith Robertson and Rhea Bills. She was the youngest of 3 children. Her father passed away when she was 6 years old, and her mother raised 3 children alone and worked hard all her life. Sharlene had 2 older brothers, Leon and Ray, who she adored and remained close with all of her life. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. Her favorite job was at Auerbach’s department store as a cashier.

Sharlene married Noris Worthy Ficklin on July 23, 1953, in Yuma, Arizona while he was serving active duty in the Navy. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1956. A few days after they were married Noris shipped out on assignment on an aircraft carrier and was gone for a year. She remained living at home in Salt Lake City and then she and Noris moved to Alameda, California for the remainder of his service. Her husband’s work took the small family to live in Salt Lake City, Colorado, and Indiana, then finally to North Ogden where they made their home for the next 60 years and raised their 6 children. Sherrie Jones (Kefford), Kerwin Ficklin (Karen), Judy Coleman (Kevin), Rodney Ficklin (Jonene), Dawnene Bunkall (Jeff), John Ficklin (Laura). There are 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Sharlene’s family meant everything to her, she was always so happy to see them and loved to hear about their lives. She has many lifelong friends in her neighborhood and ward that are so dear to her.

Later in life Sharlene graduated from Steven Henegar College. She sold real estate for 32 years into her 70’s. She loved being outdoors, reading, sewing, quilting, ceramics, working on her family history, and traveling, but most of all being with her family. Her family was everything to her. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was selected as DUP royalty in 2018 and rode in the Ogden Pioneer Days parade in Ogden, Utah.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in many church callings wherever she lived, and later as an Ogden temple worker which she loved. Sharlene loved the scriptures and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel.

Preceding her in death are her husband Noris, who passed away in 2012, her parents and her brothers Leon and Ray.

The last 2 years Sharlene resided at the Lodge in North Ogden where she made many dear friends with the residents and the staff there. The family would like to thank her wonderful friend Gerri who loved and served our mother with so much love and kindness. A very special thank you to Carly, Sharlene’s hospice nurse who cared for our mother in the most tender and heartfelt way. She became a best friend and mom loved her dearly.
