Anna Neff Packer
Anna Neff Packer, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend, was born October 2, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gordon Stanley Neff and Elaine Christiansen Neff. She passed away on September 3, 2023, surrounded by love and left us peacefully. As the eldest of five children, she was a cornerstone in a family that cherished love and unity. Anna grew up in Holladay, Utah, where she attended Olympus High School before going on to study at the University of Utah.
During her youth, Anna nurtured a love for the great outdoors, participating in camping trips, 4-H activities, and skiing adventures. Her summers were especially meaningful, spent at the family cabin in Smith and Morehouse. There, she delighted in riding horses, tubing down the river, hiking through scenic trails, and playing games with siblings, cousins, and extended family.
A social butterfly at heart, Anna had an incredible knack for connecting with people. Her generosity, kindness, and compassion were boundless, and she made it a point to keep in touch with “everyone” she knew. Her capacity to love was immense, extending not only to all people but also to her four-legged friends.
Anna was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission in Rapid City, South Dakota, and remained a pillar of faith in her ward and community throughout her life. Through her service, she touched countless lives and formed cherished, lifelong friendships.
On January 12, 1985, Anna married Stanley Jonathan Packer in the Salt Lake Temple. The union brought her the joy of becoming a mother to four young children: Anissa, David, Mathew, and Susan. Anna held a deep love for her children and treasured the moments spent together as a family, particularly at the Packer cabin east of Heber, Utah.
Professionally, Anna served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in several capacities. She worked as an International Office Liaison and as an Administrative Assistant to Elder Thomas S. Monson, as well as in the General Young Women and Primary.
A woman who cherished her roots, Anna was deeply grateful for her noble pioneer heritage. She devoted considerable time to researching, gathering, and compiling information about the lives of her ancestors. An active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, she served in the Sunflower Camp with dedication and enthusiasm.
Anna is survived by her children: Anissa (Toni) Chard, David (Amber) Packer, Mathew (Jill) Packer, and Susan Lalliss; grandchildren: Sara, Aimee, Zoey, Stephanie, Jarek, Alex, Emily, Tyler, and London; her mother, Elaine Neff; and siblings: Steven (Carrie) Neff, Rebecca (Richard) Coleman, David (Susan) Neff, and Nancy Neff. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews, one uncle, numerous cousins, as well as a host of friends and neighbors.
Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Packer; her father, Gordon S. Neff; her grandson, David Brandon Chard; her in-laws, Wendell and Arline Packer; and four brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fruit Heights 6th Ward, 77 S. Orchard Dr. (1325 E.), Fruit Heights. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
In lieu of flowers, Anna has a heartfelt request: please bake cookies for your neighbor, write a loving note of appreciation, or perform some other act of kindness. She would like to see the cycle of love and compassion continue in her memory.
