Dixie Rae Burnett Jones

Sep 12, 2023

Dixie Rae Burnett Jones passed gently through the veil on Friday, September 8, 2023, with her dear husband of almost 65 years sitting by her side to make sure she made it safely.

Dixie was born March 18, 1937, in Malad, Idaho, the oldest child of James Marius Burnett and Norma Eliason. Her first two years were lived in a log cabin with no running water or electricity in Holbrook, Idaho. The family moved to Brigham City when she was 5, and she attended both elementary school and Junior High there, before moving to North Ogden her sophomore year of high school. She graduated from Weber High where she was active in the Pep Club, Senior Council, and was crowned both Junior Prom Queen and Homecoming Queen. She then attended Weber College, graduating with her associates degree. Around that time she met the love of her life, Kent Jones. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple on October 17, 1958. After a few months in Ogden, they moved to San Francisco, where their oldest son, Clay, was born. They moved back to Utah, and lived for a while in North Ogden, where their second son, Scott, joined the family, and finally settled in Pleasant View, where their third son, Brad, was born. Pleasant View has been home ever since.

Dixie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she served in many capacities including as a Primary teacher, Relief Society President, Young Women’s Advisor, and was in the Stake Relief Society presidency. She was always willing to serve, and when the call came for Kent to serve as the director at the Cove Fort Historic Site for two years, she willingly packed up and went with him, even though leaving her home, children, and grandchildren was difficult. She loved her time there serving with many wonderful people. Upon their return, Kent and Dixie served as temple ordinance workers for 7 years. Dixie loved her Savior and was steadfast in her testimony of the Gospel.

Dixie’s main job in life was supporting Kent and raising her boys, which she excelled at. Family was her full commitment, and she did it well. She even cheerfully fried up the frog legs that her boys brought home from the pond in the field, and probably even ate some of them. She cheered on her boys in all of their athletic endeavors, and through years of horse shows, never missing an event. After the boys were grown she went to work at Blackburn Jones Insurance for a few years, and enjoyed that phase of life as well.

Dixie loved music, playing both the piano and organ. She was renowned for her cinnamon rolls and her strawberry jam. She cherished her friends and family above all. She was loved by many, and we will all miss her.

Dixie is survived by her husband Kent, sons Clay (Debbie), Scott (Kathy), and Brad (Jennifer). Also by eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Jones (CJ) and brother Greg (Elaine) Burnett, and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Becky May (Frank), and grandson Tyson Jones.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 15, in the evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Myer’s Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 16, at 11:00 in the Pleasant View Stake Center, 2975 North 1000 West, Pleasant View, Utah, with a viewing before the service from 9:30 to 10:30. Following the service, interment will be at the North Ogden Cemetery.
