Apr 26, 2024

October 17, 1957 — April 23, 2024

My Thanh Nguyen, 66, passed away surrounded by family at her home in Plain City on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on October 17, 1957 in Vietnam to Tung Trong Nguyen and Hai Thi Vo. She immigrated to the United States in 1987, originally settling in Boise, Idaho. She later attended Weber State University and the University of Utah, earning a bachelor’s degree.

My lived on the west side of Salt Lake City with her family until she married Michael Allen Dewey on September 4, 1993. The couple moved to Plainsboro, NJ and lived there for two years before moving to Waukegan, IL, for two years. It was in Illinois that both her children, Christopher and Sabrina, were born.

In 1996, My moved with her family back to Utah and soon started work as a Pharmacy Technician at Valley Pharmacy in West Valley City. She worked there until her death. The Pharmacy was started by My’s sisters to support the Vietnamese community and others. My took a lot of pride working at Valley Pharmacy and enjoyed working with her sisters, with whom she had a very close relationship.

In November 1997, My moved to Plain City where she lived until her death. My was active with Christopher and Sabrina at Plain City Elementary, arranging birthday parties, chaperoning field trips, and taking pictures. She was involved in Cub Scouts and Webelos. Later, much of her time was spent supporting the children in their many activities, mostly sports and music lessons. She also arranged dinners at home for the high school dances so she could take pictures of the kids all dressed up. Traveling with the family and cooking were also favorite ways to pass the time.

My is survived by her husband, Michael Allen Dewey; two children; Christopher Vinh Dewey and Sabrina Quynh-Nhu Dewey (Jamen Christensen), all of Plain City, Utah; brothers, Hung (Hoa), Houston, TX; Cuong (Hoa), Kent, WA; Quyen (Trang), South Jordan, UT, Qui (Ha) and Hao (Thanh), both Los Angeles, CA; Phu, Salt Lake City; Quang (Phuong Anh), Fremont, CA; sisters; Hoa (Mike) and Huong, both South Jordan, UT, Van (Tien), Kent ,WA; and 26 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tung Trong Nguyen and Hai Thi Vo; and her nephew, Spencer Hoang-Linh.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
