Marilynn Dixie Johnson Peterson
With great sadness, we would like to announce the passing of our sweet momma, grandma, sister, aunt and dear friend, Marilynn Dixie Johnson Peterson. Marilynn passed away on July 31, 2024. She was born on August 10, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho, the daughter of Albert C. and Elizabeth Fern Johnson.
Marilynn lived her early years in Pocatello and Hazelton, Idaho. When she was six years of age, she contracted polio and spent the next several years of her life in the iron lung at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Ogden City schools and graduated from high school at St. Mary’s of the Wasatch. Marilynn was a very gifted and talented artist and attended the Fine Arts Institute at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Marilynn was married to Gary Stewart for a time. Together they had a little boy, Joseph “Joey” Brett Stewart. Marilynn and Gary divorced but remained good friends. Marilynn then married Norman “Pete” Peterson and out of that union came Erik Shawn Peterson. She and Pete were later divorced and they too, remained good friends. Joey and Erik were the lights of her life, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. Marilynn worked and retired after 30 years of service from DDO of Ogden.
Marilynn was a well-known pool player in the Ogden area, winning numerous titles and trophies and making lifelong friends along the way. Marilynn loved horses and had a special place in her heart for her fur babies. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a talented photographer. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for her family or friends until the very end of her life. She was a great person, great friend and a spectacular mom.
Marilynn is survived by her brother Chuck Johnson (Susan), son Erik, six grandchildren: Angie Bloomfield, Janelle Miconi, Nathan Stewart, Kamalani Sims, Dash Sims, Mason Peterson and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother (Albert and Elizabeth Johnson), son (Joey Stewart) and granddaughter (Courtney Peterson).
Special thanks to Gary (Horsey) Moss and Lucy Roderick for all of your love and support.
