August 13, 1935 ~ July 31, 2024

Lonell Hinck Burton passed away July 31, 2024. He was born August 13, 1935, in Afton, Wyoming, the son of Fielding Call Burton and Laura Jensena Hinck. The 2nd of nine children. Lonell grew up working hard on the family ranch. He started driving tractors at age 7. His father gave him his first rifle at age 13 and started a lifelong love and respect for firearms. Lonell graduated from Star Valley High in 1954.

He began working at Call Air in 1957. Lonell attended Ricks College and Utah State University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. He later attended Weber State College to obtain his Math Teaching Certificate. He taught Metal Machining and Mathematics at Ogden High School from 1966 to 1997. Lonell joked that it only took him 3 years to get out of high school the first time, but 31 years to get out the second time. Lonell had many wonderful students during his teaching career that he was so proud of. After retiring from teaching, Lonell began working at Boman and Kemp Manufacturing Inc., where he loved working for over 15 years. He was a perfectionist, a master machinist and could build absolutely anything out of metal. Lonell bought his first backhoe while doing his student teaching. He spent evenings and weekends working with his backhoe and dump truck. Lonell was employed during the restoration of the Logan LDS Temple and worked inside the Temple walls with his backhoe. While removing driveways, Lonell found many antique marbles. By the end of his backhoe career, he had quite a collection and was able to say he had finally found all his lost marbles.

Lonell met Naomi Heninger while attending Utah State University. The two were married on June 15, 1962, in the Logan Temple. The couple had five children, DeAnn, Kathy, Annette, Christine and Alan.

Lonell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many teaching positions and served a Stake Mission in the Lorin Farr Stake. He had a strong testimony of the gospel, and the power of prayer. He loved reading the Book of Mormon.

He loved the mountains, especially in Star Valley, Wyoming. He was president of Lynn Irrigation for many years. He served for over 50 years with the Weber Wildlife Federation on the Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the NRA Golden Eagles. Lonell loved to laugh and joke with people. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he loved family gatherings. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, canoeing, gardening, barbecuing and target shooting.

Lonell is survived by his children, DeAnn Layman, Kathy Chatelain, Annette (Nolan) Pendleton, Christine (Travis) Bates and Alan (Tiffannie) Burton; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shaire Call, RaDawn Ruud, Jamie (Angela) Burton, Betty (Bruce) Davis, and Vance Burton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; granddaughter, Jamie Abshire; his parents; three siblings; and three brothers-in-law.
