Keith Butler

1930 — 2024

Keith Hodson Butler, 93, passed away January 30, 2024, in Marriott Slaterville, Utah.

I was born June 26, 1930, in Marriott, Utah to Carl L. and Bernice H. Butler. I lived in Marriott until 1945, then moved to Slaterville where I spent the rest of my life. We lived with my great grandmother as it was in the depression and times were very hard. I attended schools in the Weber County District, graduating from Weber High in 1948. I was very proud of the 1948 class where I was athletic manager for three years and attended every class reunion. I graduated from Weber State after my discharge from the Air Force. I enjoyed a very happy hard-working life as a youth, working for farmers in the area.

On April 27, 1956, I married my neighborhood sweetheart Geraldine “Jerri” Clark, she passed away in 2013.

I worked at DDO and HAFB for 42 years, except for serving in the Air Force during the Korean War 1950 -1954. My work at HAFB took me all over the world, involved in saving pilots lives with ejection seats. I retired in 1989 as a Branch Chief. After my retirement I was a consultant for 18 years for Scot Incorporated. I served on Many boards; Wacog Weber Fire District, Central Weber Sewer and Bona Vista Water.

I became involved in community affairs in 1961, when we formed a community advisory committee to advise the county commission of the desires of the residence. We prevented many undesirable things from being pushed on us by the county commission over those many years. With the closing of DDO we had to protect our boundaries, so we formed a Township, but the legislature gutted that protection, so we had to incorporate in 1999. I loved my community. I served on the Slaterville advisory committee and township from 1961 until 1999. I was elected Mayor at that time and served for 19.5 years of newly incorporated Marriott-Slaterville City. I was very proud of the accomplishments while I served, and I never had to impose a property tax.

I am survived by my daughter Kari Blickfeldt; two granddaughters Jeni and Mallori; five great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandbaby on the way; siblings Jay, Grant, Shirley, Dan and Jane. I am preceded in death by my wife; parents; brother Glen, sister Carlene and son-in-law Rick.

I loved people and called about 450 on birthdays, Christmas, and other special times. One of my cherished enjoyments was coaching basketball with the many outstanding youth of Slaterville for over 14 years, and I took pride in my yard.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 8, 2024, 11:00 am, with a viewing prior to services 9:30-10:40 am at Marriott Slaterville Church, 250 N. 1500 W., Ogden, Utah. With a viewing Wednesday, 5-8 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
