Toshiko Sugihara Okuda

Toshiko Sugihara Okuda, 86 passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 4, 2024. She was born in Hiawatha, Utah to Takaichi and Koma Sugihara. She was raised in Helper, Utah and later moved to Salt Lake City.. She graduated from West High School and received her Associate Degree in Cosmetology.

Toshi married the love of her life Masao Okuda, in December, 1955.

Toshi was a talented florist who worked at Brown Floral for many years creating beautiful arrangements. She worked for America First Credit Union and Hill AFB, retiring in 2008.

After retirement, she volunteered at Autumn Glow Senior Center and enjoyed serving samples at Sam’s Club where she formed many new friendships.

Toshi had an outgoing personality with a smile to match that would brighten your day. Family meant everything to her, she always remembered special occasions for her children, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She adored her two granddaughters, never missing their sports activities and dance competitions.

Toshi loved shopping, car trips with her husband, cruises with family and friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and crafting. She especially loved gambling and was known for her good luck.

Toshi is survived by her children, Larry, Linda, Suzan (Blaine) Yoshimura; grand-daughters Kristin (Ryan) Aramaki, and Daley; great grand-daughter Iris; Sisters; Emi Matsuura, Chieko Miya and many nieces and nephews.

Toshi was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, sister, and brother.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm and Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
