Carolyn Shields Russell

Feb 16, 2024

July 4, 1947 — February 14, 2024

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Carolyn Russell, 76, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on July 4, 1947, in Tooele, Utah, the daughter of Leo and Mary Elizabeth Shields.

Carolyn graduated from Tooele High School in 1965. It was during her high school days that she would meet her future husband, Philip William Russell. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 8, 1967.

Phil and Carolyn began their life together in Ogden, Utah on Willow Wood Lane, where they would live for 52 years. Carolyn immediately found work at the IRS where she would work for five years, until their first son (Matt) was born in 1972. Carolyn took great pride in being able to stay at home and raise her boys. She attended countless sporting events throughout her life while supporting Phil’s teams, her boy’s teams, and eventually her grandchildren’s. She loved to clean the house and go out to dinner with her friends and family; and she found great joy in serving others. She spent countless hours volunteering and visiting her friends at assisted living centers in the area.

Carolyn was faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she would serve in the primary as the pianist for more years than we can count.

Carolyn is survived by her boys Matt (Jamie) of Ogden and Mike (Melise) of Farr West; eight grandchildren that she adored, Ethan (Macey), Meg Carter (Ethan), Izzy, Nelle, Tayson, Leo, Hazel, and Tylee; and one great grandchild, Stevie Jean Carter. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Philip William Russell; her parents, Leo and Mary Shields; her sister, Mary Joyce; and her father and mother-in-law, Reed and Joyce Russell.

As a family we are grateful for the love and care that Dr. Carl Gray and his oncology team and Dr. Michelle Bischoff and her team at Intermountain Cardiology showed Carolyn.

We are grateful for Jami at Cedar Village Floral who flowered Carolyn’s life with comfort and love through her wonderful arrangements.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogden Utah Weber Stake Center, 5955 Skyline Drive, Ogden Utah 84403.
