Charles ‘Chuck’ Kellogg

Jan 3, 2024

August 5, 1937 — December 29, 2023

On December 29, 2023, Chuck Kellogg, loving husband, father, and friend left this earthly life to return to his Heavenly Father. He was born on August 5, 1937, in Plainfield, New Jersey to Charles Rutherford Kellogg Sr. and Emma Crossley Glaspey Kellogg. His life was a testament to the power of love, ambition, and a steadfast faith in Christ. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found joy in serving in the church where his callings included countless years of serving in the scouting program, Elders Quorum, Bishopric, YMMIA and seven years working in the Brigham City Temple.

He married Mary Alice Byrne, the only girl he ever loved, on December 16, 1955, in the St. George, Utah, LDS Temple, then they made their home in Reseda, California before moving to Honeyville, Utah in 1972. They lived 51 years together in Honeyville and very recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Chuck spent seven years in the Army Reserves and embarked on a career in Aerospace Science and Engineering. He worked for Thiokol for 24 years before he retired. He then went to work for Northrop Grumman and then retired for real.

Chuck and Mary shared a love of square dancing together. Chuck had varied interests including outdoor activities, camping, hiking, taking immaculate care of their yard, restoring his treasured 1955 Ford truck, and collecting vintage model cars. He had a great love for singing and sang in countless choirs and Barbershop quartets, including the Male Order Quartet and the Beehive Statesmen in Salt Lake City. He also loved spending time with many of his ‘good buddies’ who shared similar interests.

Chuck enjoyed being involved in the community and was a member of the Sons of The Utah Pioneers. He served eight years as the Honeyville City Clerk and eight years on the Honeyville Fire Department. He and his good friend Duane Phippen built the Pony Express Mail Trail Monument in Mantua and restored the Brigham City Granary and worked together on many other projects.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, and his children, Kimberlee Mordue (Robert) of Layton, UT, Sherilyn Anderson (Randy) of Preston, ID, Lisa Sigler (Trent) of Farr West, UT, Steven Kellogg (Lisa Thompson) of Kaysville, UT, and Willie Colletti of West Point, UT. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He loved his role as the family patriarch and every member of his family loved him so much and will deeply miss their beloved ‘Papa’. The huge family gatherings won’t be the same without him, but we will always feel of his spirit and remember his ‘zerberts’ or ‘raspberries’ on the little one’s necks or tummies and his silly MASH jokes. He never lost his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gordon Kellogg (Faye), his two sisters, Elaine Batley (Keith), Carole Gustafson (Harold), a stillborn daughter, Brenda Jeanne Kellogg, a granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Wright and a grandson, Joshua Robert Mordue.

Funeral Services will be held at the Honeyville LDS Ward building, 2620 West 6980 North, Honeyville, Utah, Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with a Viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. and interment afterwards at the Honeyville Cemetery. There will also be a Viewing on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Brigham City, 105 South 200 East, Brigham City, Utah.
